Welcome graphic

Welcome to Jim Norman's Art web site. Here you'll find examples of my artwork, both in water color and with simple graphite pencils to produce effects that many people have told me are stunning. Recently retired from careers in journalism and law, I find my new pursuits in art an exciting and satisfying change. I'm very busy and plan to keep adding work, so check back often!

You will also find news about shows I have, and information about items I have for sale: full-size gallery-quality prints, matted or framed; note cards and even truly challenging and unique jigsaw puzzles.

And if you have an idea for a subject you think I ought to draw, or you would like to commission me to make a drawing, or you would like to leave a comment, please e-mail me: Jim@JimNormanArt.com

So, thanks for visiting my site, and enjoy the drawings!

NEWS FLASH!

More awards!  The Pascack Art Association recognized me with a "High Achievement" award in 2011 for "Floating Sculpture," an exquisite cedar-strip kayak-canoe that paddles as beautifully as it looks. I've received not one but TWO second-place awards for entries in last year's Senior Juried Show at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey. One of them was in the drawing category, for "Bill Mayher, Educator, Writer, Wood Carver." The other award was for my recent foray into watercolor, "Spartina."  Also, for the second year in a row, I've been awarded second place in the prestigious Diversity Show at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey, with my drawing of "Courtenay Haight, Hydroponic Grower." Also, my drawing "Winter Drapery" was selected for inclusion in the show. My award in 2009 was for "Bagaduce Homestead."  You can see all these winners in the gallery to the right.

DO YOU HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE REUNION COMING UP?
If so, take a look at what I did for the Class of 1960 at Columbia High School, in Maplewood, N.J.
Perhaps you'd like to consider commissioning me to produce a beautiful drawing or painting of your Alma Mater for use on your commemorative Reunion Yearbook, for souvenir coffee mugs and T-shirts and for beautiful note cards. Original art is a great way to make your reunion a day to remember. Please contact me by e-mail: Jim@JimNormanArt.com

THANKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SHOW!

My solo show at Zoe's Cupcake Cafe in Teaneck, N.J., was a huge success! Thanks to Zoe's and all who stopped in to take a look. Even though the show is down, you can still order Jim Norman Art items like prints, puzzles and greeting cards. Mention the show at Zoe's, and I will donate a portion of the price of your order to Zoe's Place, in support of its programs for pregnant teens, teen moms and children. And if you happen to be anywhere near Bergen County, N.J., stop by at Zoe's Cupcake Cafe, 740 Chestnut Avenue, Teaneck, N.J., for the most wonderful cupcakes you ever tasted! Closed Mondays.

I DOUBLE-DARE YOU!

(and offer you a special deal)

I have been working on one of my own jigsaw puzzles recently. First, I assure you, it is do-able. But it occurs to me that these puzzles may actually be the world's most challenging! It may seem to you that a 252-piece puzzle or a 551-piece is no match for some of the 1000-piece puzzles out there, but believe me, this is one tough jigsaw! The tin container that they come in has a reduced-size picture printed on the top, which is a big help in figuring out where the pieces go. However, I have discovered that it is even more helpful to have a gallery-quality full-size print nearby to help you identify the pieces and place them in the context of the puzzle. So, here's the special deal: If you order a puzzle and a print at the same time, you'll get a 15 percent discount on the package. Example: For a framed print and a 252-piece puzzle, normally $270 together, you pay just $229.50; for a matted print and puzzle, normally $180, you pay $153.00. The discount also applies to combination packages with 551-piece puzzles. (All prices before shipping and any applicable sales tax, of course.)

A WORD ABOUT FRAMING...

I offer two frame choices: A slender black-finished wooden frame that is quite elegant with the arctic-white, black-bevel matting that I use; or a custom-milled poplar frame, finished to a soft sheen (my personal favorite). If you prefer to select a frame of your own, order a matted print.
I use acrylic plastic for glazing. It's unbreakable and lighter weight than glass (better for shipping), and it looks just as good as glass, in my opinion.

AVAILABLE FOR COMMISSIONS

I am available to draw or paint a beautiful rendering of your home, your business, your alma mater or any favorite view. Imagine being able to send personalized greeting cards with an entirely unique view, or see how your school would look on the cover of a year book or a reunion program. For an example of how this turned out in one recent commission, take a look at "Columbia High School Reunion Book Cover" in the gallery to the right. Rates (depending on complexity of the commission, time spent and distance traveled) available on request. Please send me an e-mail: Jim@JimNormanArt.com Edit Link
